Community Service Opportunities
What is the biggest thing on all of our minds since we stepped into this building? Graduation! However, with the pandemic and everything shutting down for an entire year, filling all the requirements or at least attempting to get rid of some burden may have been difficult. Namely, community service. Here is a list of some sites to help you get started on looking for a smooth sailing gig to get those required 20 hours in, or just to assist our community out of the goodness of your heart:
Want to try your hand at food distribution?
- Margie Williams helping hands
- Volunteer at Margie Williams and help distribute “life’s most necessary commodities- food” to people in need! (No listed age limit)
- Kent Food Bank
- The Kent Food Bank strives to provide food, clothes, and referrals to people in need living within the Kent area. They provide financial assistance in times of emergency and receive donations from the community. Volunteer and choose to work at the clothing bank and organize clothes and assist with clients, work at the office and register and check clients in through the system, work at the food bank and receive, unload, sort, and organize donated items, or work as a driver and deliver food to selected living facilities! - Northwest Harvest
- Northwest Harvest strives to provide access to good food to people in need. As a volunteer, you can assist with many different tasks to help NWH run as well as it has, like repacking products, distributing food to the SODO Community Market, helping out at special events, or hosting food drives! Sign up at the link above. Volunteers between 9 and 15 years old must have a parent/guardian alongside them.
- Salvation Army
- Salvation Army provides community meals, helps people combat addiction, and works with the Renton Rotary Food Bank. Volunteer to drive foods and distribute them to different areas of the community, help with serving and cleaning up after the community supper, walk clients through the Renton food bank, and many more opportunities! Teens must be accompanied by an adult!

- Join Knitting Club
- Knitting Club is Lindbergh’s most populous club. It allows members to get hours based on the projects they complete. All projects are donated to women’s, homeless, and youth shelters!
- Join Key Club
- Key Club is a club that notifies its members about community service opportunities and events around the Renton Area. Join now and be welcomed by friendly faces and friendly officer.
Are you an animal lover? Here are some programs to support our furry friends!
- Animal Humane Society
- The Humane Society needs foster parents, transport drivers, in-shelter volunteers, and more! All new volunteers are required to complete a training in order to work with animals. Apply on their site today! All volunteers be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in a regular role.
- RASKC Volunteer program- Animal
- Foster pets, assist animals in acclimating, and so much more! RASKC needs you! Apply on their site. RASKC volunteers who are between 9 and 15 years old must volunteer with their parent (or with an adult whom the parent designates in writing).
Want to complete your hours but are unable to leave your home? Virtual volunteering is an option too!
- Zooniverse
- Zooniverse is a platform where people can come together and assist professional researchers! As a volunteer, help with classifications on data, being a beta tester on projects, and being a moderator for a project. (No listed age limit)
- Amnesty Decoders
- Amnesty Decoders is a global network that helps research and expose human rights violations online! Contribute to the cause by helping researchers sift through pictures, information, and documents. (No listed age limit)
Interested in helping people who struggle with mental health? Here are some opportunities to reach out!
- Letters Against Depression
- Letters Against Depression, founded in 2014, was made to spread the message “You are not alone” and “You Matter” to people struggling with depression. Volunteer and write letters conveying hope and support, or be an artist for inspiring trading cards, and so many more creative and meaningful projects. (No listed age limit)
- Teen Link
- Teen link is a program of crisis connections that serves youth in Washington. Volunteer to get training and hop on the phones to communicate with and connect with teens in need of help. The age range is 15-20. If you’re between the ages of 13-20 and still want to contribute, community outreach may be for you.
Want to use your knowledge and help your younger peers by tutoring? Here are some programs you can join!
- Upchieve
- Upchieve is a tutoring program that helps students of all ages reach their academic goals. Sign up and volunteer to be a tutor to help out! For 13+ and online.
- Teens Give-Tutor
- Teens Give is a tutoring platform that focuses on students attending after-school programs in underserved communities that are performing under grade level. Volunteer and tutor some kids online! (No listed age limit)
Join the youth recreational centers here and help out!
- YMCA- Recreational Volunteer\
- YMCA has many different opportunities including but not limited to: Community outreach, event help, mentoring and supporting children through enriching programs, etc. Volunteer now! Age requirements vary based on the event.
- Rainier Athletes Mentoring
- Rainier athletes mentoring means connecting with a mentee and meeting up with them weekly. Rainier asks that you make a one-year commitment for consistency and create a bond with your mentee. (No listed age limit)
Interested in helping struggling mothers in need? Here are programs that support these women:
- Mary’s Place- Shelter
- Mary’s Place Shelter provides a safe shelter and services that support women and their families on their path out of homelessness. Volunteers can help with organizing events, processing donations, supporting Kids club activities, helping with job search, and so much more! Register to volunteer. Ages 14-16 need a parent or guardian.
- WestSide Baby- Provides baby stuff
- WestSide Baby provides essential items to keep children safe, warm, and healthy by distributing donated items from the community. Volunteer and help with organization and distribution. Ages 14-17 can independently volunteer.

Your donation will support the student journalists of Lindbergh High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment, cover our annual website hosting costs, send staff to annual trainings during the school year.
