Both district levies passing after Election Night results
Voter turnout among the lowest in the county.
February 9, 2022
*** Wednesday election results increased to 61.13% for prop 1 and 62.22% for prop 2. Total votes cased increases 14,116 for a total of 18.16% of the total registered votes cast. According to King County Elections, a total of 23.51% votes have been casted. The lowest voter turn out in the county and lower then the last time these levies were voted on.
Initial story:
Voters have voted yes to passing two critical continuing levies to fund multiple programs. Last night during the initial vote count showed Renton School at 60.55% yes for prop 1 and 61.69% yes for prop 2. Superintendent Dr. Damien Pattenaude went to Twitter shortly after the initial results were released “Thank you voters for your ongoing support of @Renton_Schools students and families! It is truly a blessing to serve a community that is committed to supporting its public schools. #RSDPride”
Thou both levies are passing and only require majority approval. A concern is voter turnout. Of the 76,093 registered voters in the district, only 12,551 votes were counted and overall the district up to election day has the fewest ballots returned. In 2019 when both levies were last voted on and passed by more than 62%, they only had 17,190 votes or roughly 24.
