New SRO Introduction
Renton Police Officer, Yusuf Jibril, is our new School Resource Officer (SRO). He has been a police officer for about seven years, five with the Seattle Police Department, and almost two years with Renton Police Department, and was in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight years. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is married and is a father of four daughters.
In his free time, he likes hiking, swimming, and spending time with his kids. He became an SRO because he enjoys helping and working with teens, although he tries to slow it down when he gets stressed out. “Everyone is friendly and kind. The staff and students are really welcoming and cool.” is what he said when asked what his thoughts about LHS were. His typical workday in this position is a lot of engaging in activities and just figuring things out.
When asked about communicating with parents or caregivers about the school’s safety, he said, “Tell them what’s going on, be a guide, and tell them how safe it is.”
