Hey! Guess what time it is? Wrestling Season is finally here, Wrestling had their first week of meets. Things started off hectic, but cleared up quickly. The wrestlers have been putting in a lot of work.
Elijah Mullins is a senior captain on the boys wrestling team. His favorite things about wrestling are learning new techniques and learning how to suplex someone. The hardest part of wrestling for him is enduring the physicality of the sport. To help him lock in, he isolates himself from everyone and listens to music.
Elijah isn’t planning to pursue wrestling in college; he plans to pursue automotive engineering at RTC ( Renton Technical College). His favorite memories are going against Sammamish High School and “ loves working with Culton because he has a lot of experience. “Every time we go against each other it feels like an actual match.” Elijah says, “the first week of wrestling was hectic but as time went on calmed down.” So far as a team they have only won 1 match and that was against Mercer Island, but Elijah is 9-2.
As the Team continues their wrestling practices, they look forward to participating in the Tournament against Tumwater, which is a one-hour drive from Renton. The managers have a variety of jobs when it comes to tournaments, including: taking score of the wrestlers, keeping track of statistics, and ensuring that the wrestlers know where they’re going for their match, as well as recording the wrestlers matches during tournaments.
Tati Oakley, one of the many other managers, is excited and nervous for this Tournament ahead, “I’m sure it’ll be fun, as we will ensure that our wrestlers are able to get the matches that they need.”
