Mid-winter break was from February 17th, through February 21st. Mid-winter break is a five-day break for Renton School District students and staff.

Rosalina Perez, a 10th-grade student at Lindbergh High School said, “School breaks are very much needed and unfair to students when they’re cut short because breaks are important for students and stuff so they can be motivated and help with the feeling of being burnt out.” Cash Kieth, a 12th-grade student at LHS agreed, “I think breaks should be longer because students and teachers both don’t like coming to school every single day.”

According to Edutopia.org, School breaks increase productivity and help provide students opportunities to develop creativity and social skills. 10t grade student at LHS, Itzel de Jesus Chavez, said “School breaks are good for students, so we can relax and not worry or stress about school work.” 10th grade student Sophia Pham said, “School breaks are very important, necessary and needed for good mental health.”

Alexa Lopez, 10th grade student at LHS said, “I think breaks are a great thing because students need time to relax and reflect on what they’ve done so far, and catch up on stuff they have missed.” Gabriel Shultec, 12th grade student at LHS said, “I think this break is perfect timing because I’m sick of this trimester, it feels really long!”

Although many students enjoy break, and like the mental break they get, some are bored or don’t know what to do. Isaiah Stevenson, 12th grade student at LHS said, “Maybe I’ll sleep to have energy.” Same with Sophia Pham who said, “I’ll probably sleep in.”

For those who are bored and don’t have much to do, some students and teachers recommended hanging out with family and friends, going outside, or going on a walk. Alexa Lopez said, “You should take some time to spend with friends and family because they’re very important people in your life.” JG, a teacher at LHS said, “Go outside, go on a walk, go to Coulon, and go see some water, even if it’s cold, bring a jacket.” He also said, “I’ll be in Cancun with my wife, I love being somewhere tropical.”

Rosalina Perez agreed with JG, saying “I’d go to Hawaii with my cousin, its super warm, tropical and a beautiful place. It’d be a very nice and laid back vacation.” Cash kieth said, “I’d go to germany, relax and take in everything! Over there everything is more relaxed, cleaner and stores are closed on Sundays because it is a day of relaxation.” 9th grade student, Kayleigh Covarrubias said, “I’d go somewhere in Europe or California or somewhere sunny with my family and have fun!”
This is the second winter break, also the last. The next break is expected on April 7th through 11th. Many students and staff are excited for this upcoming break. We will also be expecting a spring dance, along with break. Stay tuned for the story!
