Caelee Truong broke a 40 year old school record March 25 in the girls 100 yard butterfly. The record was recently held by Paula Martin (1:00.00). The sophomore reached the finish line in 59.87 seconds. Truong says she was surprised after her coach; Roger Myron, told her she broke the record. The record was broken during a time trial in one of her swim meets.

Truong also swims for Chinook Aquatic Club. She’s been swimming for about six years competitively. Learning how to swim around the age of nine. Truong says her sister is one of her biggest swim inspirations. Her sister also swam competitively and has looked up to her ever since. “I was really excited,” said Truong. She explains how many congratulations she’s received from family, team members and friends.

Truong plans on breaking more records in the near future like the 200 freestyle, currently held by Teresa Ruckman in 1979. That record of 2:01.70 is within 2.29 seconds away. She is also near the school record in the 100 freestyle, currently held by Annie Robinson 2018. She currently stands at 56.25 seconds.

For now, Caelee says she’s unsure of her plans after high school but is thinking about swimming in college. Her main focus after school is swim club. Caelee explains how technique is “very important to her and that the smallest problems make a difference in her performance.” She also says one of her favorite subjects to study in school is science.
