Football fans will have to wait another week before the Eagles take the field. A player was diagnosed COVID-19. This forced the team to cancel its first football game set for Friday against Olympic since players had to quarantine (per WIAA COVID-19 protocols) until players vaccination status was confirmed. No additional players have tested positive.

Today those players who were vaccinated took to the field in helmets and shoulders pads. The other players will be able to join the team after Labor Day. However players will not have enough practices to compete week two’s game against Bainbridge Island, so it is also cancelled.

“We got better today,” said Head Coach Derrick Holt after practice telling them team about week two. “we don’t have enough practices as a team, so we need to be ready to play and ready to dominate.”

The football team will open its 2021 football season with Kingco rival Evergreen on Friday, Sept 17 at Renton Memorial Stadium.  Lindbergh is not the only school under COVID-19 protocols, Bremerton, Montesano, North Mason. Hazen’s volleyball team is also under the same protocols.

Within the city of Renton, COVID-19 rates have seen a spike in positive cases. A decline in the last couple days, however within the city the cases per 100,000 are at 406 as seen below. Vaccination is the best way to reduce the impact of the Delta variant. Its not known how many staff or students at Lindbergh have been vaccinated.
