HOCO Ideas
Homecoming is coming upon us fast and the last thing anybody would ever want is a crazy unplanned Saturday evening! Stumped on what to wear and where to go for homecoming? We’ve got you covered! Here are a couple of ideas for our guys, gals, and non-binary pals.
Why didn’t the skeleton go to homecoming? Because he had no body to go with. Good thing you have a body, let’s dress it! Dress shopping can be so fun but so taxing. We can help shorten your time at the mall, or shopping online by helping you decide the style! According to David’s Bridal’s blog “Homecoming Dress Ideas: HOCO 2021 Trends to Wear”, skater skirts, sparkles, and corset-style tops are trending now. Although following the trends aren’t exactly the most interesting ways to go and may not be what you’re into. There are other ways to dress, for example the classic halter neck or off-the-shoulder is always a chic and comfortable path to choose. A classy long maxi is always a fun choice if you plan to wear heels or platforms. Baby doll dresses and fun jumpsuits are adorable ways to be fashionable and functional. The color choice is completely up to you, and in my opinion, the most important to consider. A soothing blue, a vibrant red. With so many different ways you could go, choose whatever makes you feel best and comfortable! We’re here to have fun!
You know what they say, “Once you’ve seen one shopping plaza, you’ve seen the mall”. Window shopping and browsing can be overwhelming. The multitude of beautiful colors and varying lengths with different textures that all bring something fun and fresh to the table, all so enticing. It’d be a surprise to not have seen stores all around displaying shiny new dresses for the homecoming season, but in case you haven’t, I got you. Here is a classic list of my favorite stores to hit that is both in-store and online:
Macy’s (A great selection of dresses and a whole homecoming tab on their website!)
Nordstrom rack (Affordable, stylish dresses. Cocktail & Party tab on their website)
David’s Bridal (An entire tab for homecoming dresses! Only downside is that they’re a little pricey.)
Maybe dresses aren’t your fancy. Perhaps you would like to wear something a little more suited for you. There are many different styles of suits you can go for, whether it be something casual or a little more traditional. No matter what type of suit you get, the first thing you have to consider is the color and the fabric. The color of a suit can make or break your style, especially with your date. The best idea is to either pick a color that matches what your date is wearing or wear a good neutral color like black or grey. If you want an untraditional suit color while still being neutral a dark blue is the color for you. If you want to go all out you can pick a bright color such as green, blue, pink, or any other bright color.
Next is the type of fabric as it will have a great effect on the look of the suit. You can go with the classic cotton suit, this will have a good base for the color and look of the fabric. You could also go in a silk or velvet suit. A silk suit will have a more shiny look to it while velvet suits give a more soft look. Lastly, you have to decide if you are going to wear a suit or a tuxedo. The difference between suits and tuxedos might seem small but they could completely change the look of your outfit. They have different fits, pocket placement, lapels, and more.
Choosing what styles and colors are easy. Now, here’s the hard part; there are many different options at many different prices, you can either rent or buy your outfit. There are benefits for both so make sure you know what you want. If you are looking to buy your outfit; Men’s Wearhouse, JoS A. Bank, Al’s Formal Wear are some good options at many different price ranges but be careful while shopping for a suit/tux at a store like Macy’s. It’s important to make sure you get your outfit in either a set or make sure it’s all the same color and fabric. If you are looking to rent your outfit instead these are some good options for you: Men’s Wearhouse is on average $180. Low as $100 high as $250 all for pants, coat, vest, (bow) tie, dress shirt, and an extra $10 for shoes. JoS A. Bank is an average of between $90 to $180 for a coat, pants, vest, collared shirt, tie, shoes, plus a bonus accessory.
You might be planning to go with your very own Fantastic Four group, possibly even going with your Love From Another Star, but how do you look like you’re going with them? Unless you’re going Han Solo, I’ve got the best ideas for you. Ladies, gents, and non-binary friends, I present to you— group coordination! Yes, a very common idea, but not very easy to make happen. Here are a few ideas about how you and your group can look like a traveling jazz choir.
Unbeknownst to many, our homecoming theme this year is the extravagant Broadway. The many worlds and characters brought to life by beautiful people on that vast stage of dreams in New York are coming to LHS. Not literally, but you can make it feel like that! Wear the colors of the ever-popular Heathers girls, feel fierce and musical in Six’s colors, dress up in fancy leather as LHS’s very own Danny Zuko; so many options to choose from!
Maybe Broadway themes aren’t your forte, even though it’s a Wicked good theme. You could always go for matching accessories, like ties, or corsages, wearing similar colors, or matching dress styles. A myriad to choose from, but a very difficult decision.
While the task of settling on the best choice for you may be looming over your head, we hope that this could have provided some help in deciding what to wear. Use the hashtag #LHShoco2021 in your photos! We’re excited to see it!
