REVIEW – Eternals
Eternals is the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film felt like Marvel swinging for a home run…. And hitting a weak single. This film isn’t awful, but it is definitely not great. It is very difficult to get into this film’s flaws without getting into spoilers.
One major flaw I wasn’t expecting no matter how bad the film was. The fact that the film had some of the worst CGI that I have ever seen, not just for a marvel movie but all big-budgeted movies. The film was shot, directed, edited, and filmed beautifully by Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao. The beauty of the shots made the CGI look super rendered and fake like something you would see in a television show or low-budget movie. It took me out of the movie experience whenever CGI was used, and it was used a lot.
Another issue that I had with this film was the story pacing, the film kept jumping from present to past, to keep you guessing in what is happening, but it also makes it confusing to follow the character’s motivations, and the characters themselves it things such as if they are still alive, lost or evil. This also stems from another issue of its own with the back and forth nature of the film.
At the end it creates a sudden change of motivation of two characters that agree with one just because of the fact that they trust another character when the story has given us no reason to trust them. The film does have positive though, most of the characters are good, the film is well-acted and funny with the action being will used and needed in the film to give some excitement, because the film tries really hard to groundbreaking and have a lot of morale debates some being good, and previously stated some bringing the film down. Altogether, the film was a good entrance to the more cosmic side of marvel, it was able to bring the crazy weird side of marvel to the more grounded, easy to understand byt the normal non-comic side of marvel. I would recommend this movie to fans of comic books and MCU fans, for those who are not I would wait for this film to be on streaming.
I would give this film a 7/10.
