BREAKING – District says students and staff will return on Monday, Jan 3

Egalitarian Staff

The Renton School District sent families and staff an email December 29 indicating its return to school on Monday, January 3. According to the email by district Community Relations Executive Director Randy Matheson:

As we prepare to welcome the new year and return from Winter Break on Monday, January 3, 2022, we want to update you regarding our ongoing efforts related to COVID.

First, given the impact of the new Omicron variant, we continue to work with Public Health–Seattle & King County on strategies to mitigate spread. These measures include universal masking, ventilation, providing additional COVID vaccination clinics, and staying home and getting tested when there are signs of illness.

Second, in our on-going efforts to fight COVID and keep students and staff safe, we have been conducting COVID testing at schools if students become symptomatic while at school or if they are  identified as a close contact. In order to expedite that process, we have created a universal COVID testing consent form, allowing families to indicate that they consent to having their student tested for COVID at school as needed, including for athletics. This consent can be provided by completing the form in Skyward Family Access

This universal consent form will also help us to implement a Test to Stay program. We will share more information regarding the program in the coming weeks.

We appreciate all you are doing to continue to keep yourself and your loved ones safe by masking, keeping physical distance, using hand-washing and respiratory hygiene, and getting vaccinated and/or boosted. Find additional COVID-19 information at Public Health – Seattle & King County.

We will keep you updated regarding any changes to COVID guidance as well as continue to make important health decisions in consultation and partnership with Public Health–Seattle & King County.

Beyond COVID, we are monitoring the weather forecast and roads throughout the district. If any schedule changes are necessary due to weather, we will communicate as soon as that decision is made.

Lindbergh along with Renton shut down athletics over the break given the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the community. The chart below shows for just cases within the city of Renton. We will continue to follow-up upon returning to school about the new consent COVID19 form and a Test to Stay Program.
