A person’s body isn’t an object the federal government should be able to control

A person’s body isn’t an object the federal government should be able to control

On June 24th 2022, the Supreme Court voted for Roe v Wade to be overturned. On that day, women in about 24 US states lost their right to an abortion of any kind. That meant no exceptions for rape or incest. And in many states, the right to abortions were banned after six weeks of pregnancy. This led to many patients fleeing to other states to gave their procedures.

In Columbus, OH, just nine days ago, Ohioans voted to bring back women’s right to be able to have an abortion, and their right to be able to make their own decisions about their health care. Ohioans fought day and night for about a year an a half to regain their reproductive rights. Rhianna Carnes, Executive Director of Ohio Women’s Alliance stated ”Tonight we took back our power, to make the best decisions for ourselves and our families and our people,” as was published in the Washington Post right after this reversal. Ohio became one of the only seven states that protects the access to abortions. Washington State is one of these.

Although the results of the voting left a certain group of people unsatisfied who felt differently. In the same article, Aaron Baer, President of Ohio’s Center for Christian Virtue stated that “Our hearts are broken tonight, not because we lost, but because Ohio women and families will bear the brunt.” Baer also vowed that the fight wasn’t over.
