Renton Regional Fire Authority offers CPR classes

Yearbook

Students in ninth grade learn CPR in health class. A person who starts CPR raises the persons chance of survival up to 56%.

Have you ever wanted to learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR? How about a new job that requires you to know CPR? The Renton Regional Fire Authority offers many classes for both CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) training. For many years now, freshmen taking health class were offered the opportunity to be able to get certified for two years. Over the years, at least five students have used those skills learned in class to perform CPR on family and strangers.

Knowing CPR gives a person a higher chance of survival, especially here in King County where the survival rate is 56%.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is an emergency procedure that greatly increases the chances of survival once someone’s heart stops beating. Developed in 1960 by Dr. William Bennett Kouwenhoven, Dr. Peter Safar, and Dr. James Jude, CPR saved countless lives by medical professionals and regular people. If you want to learn the procedure used by all these people to save lives, then the Renton Fire Department can help you.

The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) offers semi regular classes for both CPR/AED and First Aid Training. The classes are split into two half day sessions. One day for CPR/AED training and the other half for First Aid, so if you are only interested in attending for CPR training then you only have to attend one half day session. The classes cost $30 each and $60 if you are taking both classes. Once completing a class you will receive a certification card that satisfies WISHA and OSHA requirements for First Aid and CPR respectively.

CPR is a tried and true method to restart the heart after it has stopped beating. Even if you do not need a CPR certification for a job, it is still a good idea to get certified as you never know when you may need to use it.
