Steven Turner has been a biology and chemistry here at Lindbergh High School for the past 7 years, and worked at Nelsen Middle for 27. Turner started out being an outdoor camp educator assistant while he was in college, where he realized he loved teaching people about nature and science.
When asked what his favorite part of LHS was, he stated, “The students are, without question, the very best part of LHS. No matter their background, language, academic ability… they are all remarkable young people.” Impassioned by his students, talent, curiosity, talent, and depth, Turner remembers seeing his students grow fondly. Turner also says that his students have taught him to not judge them by their performance in his subject or engagement in class since many students have talents unexpressed in the classroom with their own lives beyond his eye.
Moran has been working with Turner for the past 20 years, during which Moran says Turner inspired her to treat students as her own and apply empathy at work. Moran wants to tell Turner, “Enjoy retirement, you deserve to enjoy a calm world.”
As a final goodbye to LHS here is what Turner has to say:
“Thank you for the opportunity for me to serve with you in this grand endeavor over the last six years—and to the staff at Nelsen Middle School for 27 years before that. It’s been a genuine honor, one in which I feel equal parts humility and pride. You are all amazing teachers and people, and you have had such a huge impact on me and the students you teach. I am proud to retire as an LHS Eagle!”
