It’s that time of year again, the leaves are falling, turning new colors and most importantly school is back in session. Let’s check up on the class of 2029 as their first year in high school has just begun.
The transition from middle school to high school can be a big change, some freshmen like Abbytha Lopez-Dupree say their expectations of coming to a new school were to get lost and struggle to find classes. While others like Lucciana Melo-Santos thought it would be a difficult transition but turned out to be easier than she thought.
When asked how is your first year in high school going, Melo-Santos shared “it’s going good, a lot of people have been friendly.” Something she prefers in high school is the five periods instead of six. “It helps the day go by faster.” Melo-Santos isn’t holding back this year, she wants to start cheer next trimester and get more involved with the school.

Lopez-Dupree’s year so far has been “going pretty good,” she prefers how much more freedom you get in high school rather than middle school. Her easiest class she has right now is health since she likes learning about the body. While her hardest class is biology, because science isn’t her strong suit.
Many freshmen have noticed coming into high school is very different because of the freedom, people and responsibility. “People are more mature here, you can tell who’s new to the school and who’s been here” states Melo-Santos. ¨It’s way different because middle schoolers are more childish, less mature.” Lopez-Dupree adds.
Although the trimester has just begun Lopez-Dupree is looking forward to her ceramics class next trimester to expand on her creativity. On the other hand Melo-Santos is looking forward to Dance class next trimester because she always likes to be moving around, right now she’s finding P.E. to be her easiest class.
As the trimester continues, the class of 2029 is finding their own rhythm and confidence. From nervous first days to growing independence this year, these students are already showing resilience and determination. With each new experience the freshmen are proving they’re ready to make this year unforgettable.
