Vivian Tran, a sophomore midfielder and captain of the girls varsity soccer team, balances leadership on the field with active involvement in several student clubs.

Tran has played for Lindbergh’s soccer program for two years and is serving her first season as a captain. She values being a steady positive presence for her teammates. “Each Captain has their own strength and I see mine as focusing on what’s going on in your mind, not just what’s happening on the field,” she said.
Tran explained that she strives to keep spirits high—whether by smiling, cracking jokes, or giving motivating halftime talks. She wants her teammates to feel supported and encouraged, even during tough games or challenging off days. To her, being a positive presence means offering a bit of light in the storm whenever someone needs it.

As a student-athlete involved in multiple clubs, Tran commented on how many people underestimate the demands of balancing academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. When others ask, “How do you handle it all?” She said the honest answer is that most student athletes simply push through the constant fatigue and full schedules.
Tran is involved in DECA, HOSA, PJU, ASU and NHS at Lindbergh and is currently advocating for expanded EKG testing for students. “I’m talking with administrators in the district about implementing sudden Cardiac Arrest screenings for all athletes at Lindbergh,” she added, “ I want to make sure we’re testing for these heart condition irregularities because every student deserves a chance at life.”
“Your success, however you measure it, is achievable,” Tran said. “Most people have what it takes, they just need a jump start.” She added that her involvement in many clubs comes from wanting to support students who may not yet feel confident speaking up, and giving them that trust in believing in themselves.
