Kamyah Wiley is one of the current Lindbergh High school cheer captains. Wiley is currently in 12th grade, her last year at Lindbergh as a cheerleader.
Wiley first joined cheer her sophomore year. She tried out her freshman year, but had to drop out of tryouts because she moved. Wiley was influenced to join because a lot of her friends were in cheer. Wiley stated, “I guess I should join cheer since I make up k-pop dances in my room.”
Wiley went back and forth with her decision on cheer, playing games like “heads and toes” and even asking Siri–once she got an answer, she knew cheer was for her. Currently, Wiley enjoys the different categories within cheer such as: sideline, competition, stunt groups, and the versatility of it all.
Wiley says that the cheer team impacts the school by serving as role models. An “elite society” she says. When you see a group of girls that are well put together and have their own thing going on, it makes you want to be more involved and know what’s going on.
Wiley, when asked about different seasons, states that “basketball is my favorite season–for one, it’s warmer–and for two, the games are funner to watch. It’s more fast paced”. Outside of cheer, Wiley enjoys playing a variety of video games and watching anime.
A video game Wiley is into right now is “Little Nightmares Three” and an anime she’s excited for coming out soon is the “Chainsaw Man” movie. Aside from her anime, this school year she is most excited for the Senior BBQ.
Wiley believes it won’t be super emotional, it might be more bittersweet. She’s more happy than she is sad because she knows she is leaving an imprint on those around her and that she’s leaving satisfied.
