The girls’ softball team has won 12 games and lost four. There are seven seniors on the team.
Makenna Gallenger is a sophomore playing softball in the position of center field. Gallenger’s goal as a center fielder is to catch fly balls, help the outer fields, and back up throws.
For Gallenger, playing softball affects her daily life through her skills. “My softball skills affect my mindset. By working hard at games and practices, it makes me want to focus hard on studies and succeed, so I do well after high school,” Says Gallenger. It also affects how she manages her school and workplace.
For Gallenger, softball affects her mental state by allowing her to make mistakes and learn from them. “I make many mistakes as a center fielder. Sometimes I don’t catch the ball, giving a point to the other team. But that’s okay because making small mistakes like that helps me become a better player for my team and myself.” Says Gallenger.
Gallenger enjoys playing softball because of the people she has met. Her teammates have made her feel welcome with their help and support. Gallenger says, “When I started this softball season, I wasn’t sure I would make any friends. But my team was so welcoming and forgave me for the mistakes that I would make. They are also super smart, so they help me out in class.”
Gallenger enjoys hanging out with her friends outside of school.
Gallengers’ plan after high school is to go to college. She says she wants to go to Washington University. “I want to go to UW because my parents went there and they inspired me to go.”
Her favorite food is Thai. “My favorite restaurant is Mintra Thai Cuisine because they have the best crispy garlic chicken.”
