Angela moved to the United States from China in 2021. Now a 10th-grade student at Lindbergh High School, she is an active member of the Chinese Student Assoc Union, a cultural and community-focused group that brings together students with a shared interest in Chinese heritage and culture.
When Angela first arrived, everything felt unfamiliar. Joining the Chinese Student Assoc Union gave her a sense of connection and support. “It was the first place where I felt truly welcomed,” she shared during the interview. Fellow members reached out to her, included her in activities, and helped her adjust to her new environment.
Now that she has settled in, Angela is passionate about making the club a welcoming space for others—especially new students who might be going through the same experiences she once did. She believes that every new member deserves to feel accepted and supported.
The Chinese Student Assoc Union regularly helps newly arrived Chinese students by guiding them through school life. Club members help explain class schedules, introduce school resources, share study tips, and organize welcome events to help newcomers feel more comfortable. They also play an important role in promoting Chinese culture to the wider school community. Through activities like teaching basic Chinese phrases, celebrating traditional holidays, and hosting Chinese food tasting days, the club encourages cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Angela also has big dreams for the future of the club. She hopes to organize more cultural events, such as Chinese New Year celebrations, traditional arts and crafts workshops, and cultural exchange discussions with students from different backgrounds. Her goal is to share Chinese culture while building a diverse and inclusive community.
To any student interested in joining, Angela offers a warm message: everyone is welcome. Whether someone is from China, has Chinese roots, or simply wants to learn more about the culture, the Chinese Student Assoc Union is open to all.
