Amy Diezman is one of the Lindbergh High School cheer captains. She is currently in 12th grade, with this being her last year at Lindbergh as a cheerleader.
Diezman first joined cheer in July of 2022. She originally started because lots of people around her did cheerleading. For instance, her brother’s friend was a cheer captain before her freshman year. Diezman’s grandmother did cheerleading, which is partially what inspired her to try out.
Her favorite thing about cheerleading is, “The friendships I’ve built, along with learning how to be a leader and stepping up into certain roles.” Football season is her personal favorite, since she gets to be outside and “feel more in the game.”
Diezman believes that cheerleading impacts the school community by providing a positive environment–the cheer coaches especially support this. This year, Diezman is excited for graduation and senior night. She states that it will be emotional–however, she is grateful she has the opportunity to spend it with the people she loves.
In cheer, the team tries to do as many events as they can–they love supporting Lindbergh and the city of Renton. The team does this by doing parades and different types of fundraisers–whether it’s for people or selling fun things and yummy treats at tailgates.
With Lindbergh’s current cheer coaches, it’s contrasting to the past ones. Diezman and other girls on the cheer team are able to take criticism better. Diezman has learned much about leadership and what it’s truly like to be able to love a sport without dreading going to practice and managing friendships while still keeping it professional.
Aside from cheer, she enjoys spending time with friends (who also participate in cheer), family, and her boyfriend. She also likes going on fun adventures like hiking, playing mini-golf, and watching movies with her dad and brother.
