Spencer Virden, Language Arts Honors teacher at Lindbergh High School (LHS), also co- advises Leadership. This year, he focuses on classes such as Eagle Crew and Associated Student Body.
Did you know that Mr. Virden spent seven years as a teacher and taught Eagle Crew for five years? “I was a student leader in high school, it has always been a dream of mine to advise.”
Eagle Crew is a program for the LHS community that brings school spirit. You may wonder the purpose of the program, Virden states, “It’s a goal to create welcoming communities for freshmen from middle school to high school.”
In Leadership, there’s branches such as ASB and Eagle Crew. Although both involve school spirit, Eagle Crew focuses more on supporting freshmen and community outreach, while ASB focuses on the student body. Math teacher Leah Dalrymple co-advises with Virden, benefiting both for a better environment and leadership.
Since Eagle Crew is based on freshmen support, one of their important activities is preparing for the new school year. Usually, leadership does training every summer, practicing on staff and members across the district in order to align with their goals. They have a two day trip on how to interact with freshmen.
The purpose of Eagle Crew is to help incoming freshmen feel welcomed. Virden states, “In today’s world, I feel like we need better connections with others. We want to bring more spirit and build a better community since nowadays we’re always together in school.”
As each year starts, Eagle Crew continues doing their assigned responsibilities with commissioners and advisors supporting the program. They’re hoping to continue their goal of creating warm communities, building freshmen events, and finding ways to support current freshmen.
